Description
Description Alternative
Against a background of lack of experience in interacting with multiple generations and professions, a decline in basic nursing skills, such as the communication skills of students in nursing practice, has become an issue. The College of Nursing faculty conducted a simulation exercise to strengthen students’ basic nursing skills for patient care prior to ward training for students. The simulation exercise was designed to improve the nursing skills of 125 sophomore nursing students in charge of patients for the first time in a fundamental nursing practicum. The content of the simulation exercise was based on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “Technical Matters Related to Nurse Education and Attainment at Graduation (2019)” and it incorporated the results of a student survey conducted in the previous year. The post-ward training questionnaire, which is a subjective evaluation, revealed that all respondents felt that the simulation training prepared them well for the practical training. The primary reason for this was its usefulness in practical training. We will continue to improve the content of this training to make it more practical.
