Description
A novel biscarbodiimide compound containing alkynyl spacer has been prepared and successfully used as an electrophilic comonomer in the polyaddition reaction with chiral secondary and primary 1,2-diamines. The resulting chiral polyguanidines have exhibited Brønsted base catalytic activities with asymmetric induction ability, which can be greatly enhanced through noncovalent modification with achiral Brønsted acids, such as phosphoric acid diesters and carboxylic acids. This study reveals for the first time the validity of a strategy incorporating guanidine functionality into polymer main chains followed by their noncovalent modification for organocatalyst design.
