Description | Mental health problems among young people, especially university students, are serious in Japan. Several studies have shown that the cultivation of self-compassion is effective for improving mental health, and the number of studies has increased over the years. The definition of self-compassion includes (1)self-kindness, (2)sense of common humanity and (3)mindfulness. Therefore, we reviewed the positive impact of self-compassion on mental health and the effectiveness of programs that cultivate for self-compassion. However, previous studies have revealed that some people found it difficult to incorporate self-compassion into their lives and attitude. We also reviewed previous research that examined these issues. However, it is not clear why or how some people have difficulty accepting self-compassion. Therefore, we have to engage in empirical research investigating for this idea(e. g. , investigate the detail of the individual life story).
