Description | The declining birth rate has made Japan an aging society. More than the 25% of the population are considered aged people, and many of them without expectation of a long life. There are many issues concerning the elderly. In the present study the author aims at considering the meaning of a successful aging on the basis of Erikson's development 9th stage and the gerotranscendence of Tornstam. The author thinks communality and hope are decisive factors for successful aging.
