Description
Splenic artery aneurysms are potentially life threatening because these may rupture and lead to fatal hemorrhage. We report six cases of surgical treatment for unruptured splenic artery aneurysms. Patients were 1 man and 5 women with a mean age of 64 years(range 49-79). Five patients had a solitary splenic aneurysm, while one patient had multiple aneurysms. The average size of aneurysms was 22.8 mm(range 10-35). Three patients had undergone splenectomy with aneurysm. The three remaining patients had undergone aneurysmectomy with vascular reconstruction, preserving the spleen. The postoperative course was uneventful and the perfusion to the spleen was of excellent quality on CT. Surgical treatment should be indicated for splenic artery aneurysm, even if the aneurysm is not ruptured.
