Description Alternative | Objective:This study aimed to develop a measurement scale for evaluating resident network function in the hopes of increasing underserved populations’ access to healthcare practitioners.
Methods:A questionnaire survey using the drafted scale, consisting of 31 items that were developed based on previous research, was conducted with full-time public health nurses working at a total of 1215 facilities (public health centers, municipal health centers, and regional comprehensive support centers)throughout Japan. Results:The responses of 1062 effective respondents were analyzed. Exploratory factor analysis resulted in a scale composed of 5 sub-factors : Factor 1 Connection with residents( 9 items), Factor 2 Network foundations ( 6 items), Factor 3 Place and opportunity for residents to gather ( 3 items), Factor 4 Connection with specialists (4 items), and Factor 5 Aiding each other and information exchange among local residents ( 5 items). Cronbach’s ▯ reliability coefficient, which indicates internal consistency, was 0.903,indicating high reliability. Discussion:The result of this study led to the development of the Resident Network Function Evaluation Scales for Improving Access, comprising 5 sub-factors whose reliability and validity were confirmed. It was suggested that this scale could be used to objectively evaluate whether a local resident network has been established for healthcare and welfare service providers to identify through local residents those people who require such services but are unable to access them on their own. |
