| Description | Contemporaries report that Christina Rossetti's youthful world view was characterized by appreciation of material and spiritual dimensions of life but, as she grew older, Rossetti increasingly dismissed the material and favored the spiritual. This essay considers biographical information and examples of her writing in an effort to understand the tension between material and spiritual attractions so evident in Christina Rossetti life and so important to her work.
