Description
Description Alternative
Film-forming amines (FFAs) have attracted worldwide attention as novel additives that prevent corrosion in water–steam cycles by forming hydrophobic films on metal surfaces. However, their most important mechanism of corrosion protection has remained unknown. The author and coworkers have recently elucidated the formation mechanism of the FFA films on metal surfaces and their structure by developing a unique approach that combines quantitative analysis due to solution NMR and ICP-AES with powerful surface analysis methods such as microscopic reflection IR, XPS, and AFM. Here I also report our recent study on the decomposition reaction of amines in high-temperature water by multinuclear NMR.
