Description
Weaning seems to have some influences on the body and mind of both of
mother and child. However, there are many different opinions about the
timing and process of weaning.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the
process of weaning and the mother' s mind.
The sample was compromised of 109 mothers who had 18 month old
infants. The measure was a weaning process questionnaire consisting of
two scales: childcare stressors and childcare anxiety.
The results show that mothers confront various ploblems, but overall
the number of mothers who wean late is increasing. Mothers who stopped
breastfeeding within 6 months have the most childcare anxiety; however,
mothers who stopped breastfeeding within 12 months have the least. This
might reveal a fact weaning in Japan, that “breastfeeding within 12 months
and weaning around 1year old is the best”.
